Damauli (Tanahun). The environmental impact assessment of the 126 megawatt Lower Seti hydropower project to be built in Tanahun has been submitted to the Electricity Development Department. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the Lower Seti Hydropower Project to be constructed by Tanahun Hydropower Limited has been submitted recently.

Kiran Kumar Shrestha, the managing director of Limited, informed the RAS that the report has been submitted including the suggestions received in the EIA. The land acquisition process of the project has also been advanced. Shrestha said that the proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation for approval to advance the private land acquisition process required for various structures of the project. According to the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, 2034, the land acquisition required for the project will be started after the initial authority is appointed by the Government of Nepal.

Under the project, a 32-meter high dam will be constructed on Seti River near Saranghat in Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 and Devghat Rural Municipality-3. It is planned to divert the flow of water through Devghat Rural Municipality 3 and 4 through a 6.8 km long tunnel to produce Khasali electricity in a semi-underground power plant to be built on the right bank of the Kaligandaki River in Devghat, which is about 500 meters below the confluence of the Seti River.

Electricity will be generated by constructing a semi-underground power house in Devghat Rural Municipality-4 Gaighat. The generated electricity will be integrated into the national power system in the 220 kV Damauli-New Bharatpur transmission line constructed by the Tanahun hydropower project. For this, about two kilometers of transmission line should be constructed.

About 12 km long reservoir of semi-reservoir Lower Seti project will be extended from the upper coastal area i.e. from the dam site to Sundegaon. The project will produce 52 million units of electricity annually. The estimated cost of the project is 25 billion.

Initiatives have also been started to ensure investment for the project. Tanahun Hydropower Limited has already sent a letter to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation requesting them to facilitate with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for investment management in the project through the Nepal Electricity Authority.

According to the project chief Bhandari, preparations are being made to call for bids in 2081. A detailed study for the construction of the Lower Seti hydropower project has been completed. The project appointed an expert group and proceeded with the work.

The company has already received the survey permission for the project's electricity production. In addition, a purchase agreement was signed with Wapcos India-Nippon Koi Japan JV on 29th Chait 29 of 2075 for the purchase of consulting services for the preparation of detailed engineering design and tender related documents with the help of a grant of about 3.5 million US dollars received from the donor agency ADB.
